After one month of rehabilitation, Bald Eagle #25-3592 has successfully returned to the wild!
Bald Eagle #25-3592 was transferred to the Center from the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center on September 10, after being found downed following an altercation with two other eagles in Franklin County, Virginia. Although a physical exam did not reveal any injuries, bloodwork showed that the eagle had subclinical lead toxicosis, a significant issue for Bald Eagles. The Center's veterinary team performed chelation therapy to remove the lead and daily flight exercises to help the bird rebuild his strength. By October 6, the eagle had recovered and was cleared for release.
The eagle was released back into the wild on October 14, 2025 at Smith Mountain Lake Community Park in front of a crowd of around 125 people. Director of Outreach Connor said, “He paused for just a second, then took off and soared over the water. He circled above us for a while, almost like he was showing off how well he could fly!”
