On the morning of April 25, the Wildlife Center admitted two more Black Bear cubs — bringing the current cub tally to 12. These two cubs were found in Bath County; a private citizen saw the two young bears without a sow on April 19. On April 24, he saw them again and called the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, who responded to the call.

Both cubs were bright and alert; Dr. Ernesto noted that the cubs were a little thin and dehydrated, though otherwise were in good condition. The diagnostic team found a singular live ursicoptes mite, which is a bear-specific mange mite; both cubs were treated with an anti-parasitic.  The newest cubs were weighed and ear-tagged and join the group as:

Cub #20-0646 (male): Red/Green Tags, 2.37 kg
Cub #20-0647 (female): Pink/White Tags, 2.27 kg

Both cubs were placed in a Zinger and were moved to the Large Mammal Isolation enclosure. Watch for them on Critter Cam 3!

Your donation will help provide specialized care to these two bears — plus the many other thousands of patients that the Wildlife Center will treat this year.
