A new addition has arrived in the Wildlife Center's online shop!
Dr. Karra to the Rescue, written by author Christy Gove, follows the Center's own Veterinary Director, Dr. Karra Pierce, as she cares for a variety of injured wildlife patients. Inspired by true stories from actual Wildlife Center patients, the book introduces young readers to wildlife medicine while sharing the stories of animals who received care at the Center.
Featuring real patient stories, wildlife facts, and photographs from the Wildlife Center, Dr. Karra to the Rescue is the fourth book collaboration between the Wildlife Center and Christy Gove. Along with highlighting the care provided to injured wildlife, the book also reflects the Wildlife Center's role as a teaching hospital, where students and early-career professionals gain hands-on experience in wildlife medicine.
"Every patient who comes through our doors has a story," said Dr. Karra Pierce. "I hope this book helps young readers see the challenges wildlife face and inspires them to care about the animals living in their own communities."
This fall, Christy Gove and Wildlife Center staff will take the book on the road, visiting bookstores and libraries during a book tour planned for mid-October. Wildlife ambassadors are expected to join many of the events, with additional details to be announced later this year.
