Wildlife Center Talks Turtle Conservation on Smithsonian Podcast

This summer, the Smithsonian podcast Sidedoor launched a two-part series on turtle conservation, and the Wildlife Center of Virginia is proud to be part of the story.

In part one, "Shellshocked I: Turtles vs. The World," Sidedoor explores the many threats facing turtles in our modern world, from habitat loss to road dangers to the illegal pet trade. The episode lays the groundwork for why turtles are in trouble—and what people can do to help.

In part two, “Shellshocked II: Turtle Thieves,” the podcast team takes a closer look at the issue of turtle trafficking, including a stop at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. Our own Director of Outreach, Connor Gillespie, shares insight on our work with turtles and the growing need for public awareness and action.

We’re honored to be part of this national conversation. Give it a listen, and help spread the word about protecting our native turtles!
