We’ve got some exciting news to share – our Black Bear cubs are turning ONE, and we’re throwing them a birthday bash to celebrate!
Nine months ago, the Wildlife Center welcomed the Black Bear cubs of 2024 from various locations across Virginia. These seven young bears are currently receiving expert care from our dedicated veterinary and rehabilitation teams, with plans to release them back into the wild by spring 2025, around the time they would naturally begin dispersing from their mothers.
In Virginia, Black Bear sows typically give birth between December 19 and February 22, with January 17 being the median date. To honor this milestone, we’ve established a tradition of celebrating their “birthdays” on this special day.
Join us for a fun virtual celebration! On Friday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern, we’ll be treating the cubs to some special birthday treats. Our wildlife rehabilitators will prepare the treats, which will be delivered live to the cubs’ outdoor enclosure – and you’ll be able to watch it all unfold on camera! The event will be streamed on both the Center’s Live Events page and Facebook, where our outreach team will share insights about the bears’ care and the delicious surprises they’re receiving.
Want to give the bears a birthday gift of your own? If you'd like to make their day even more special, consider making a donation to support their ongoing care!
Thank you for your continued support – we can’t wait to celebrate with you online!
