After one month of rehabilitation, Bald Eagle #25-3791 was released back to the wild!
This adult Bald Eagle was rescued by Chickahominy Wildlife on September 24 after being found grounded in King and Queen County. Upon admission, veterinary staff discovered deep necrotic wounds on the eagle's back and hips. Diagnostic tests also revealed high levels of lead in the bird's system, a significant health issue for Bald Eagles.
The veterinary team started chelation therapy to remove the lead and carefully managed the wounds. Within two weeks, the lead had been successfully cleared, and the bird's wounds had healed. By October 20, the eagle was able to perform strong, sustained flight in an outdoor flight pen and was officially cleared for release.
The eagle was released back to the wild on October 23, 2025, at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown in front of a crowd of around 100 people. Director of Outreach Connor said, “The eagle took flight and perched in one of the trees at the release site. After taking in the surroundings, he took flight again, but this time soaring high up into the sky. It was a beautiful sight."
