The Wildlife Center of Virginia’s Annual Gala is just around the corner, with the Gala Finale set for Saturday, October 19. This year, we are thrilled to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning author and environmental historian Jack E. Davis as our special keynote speaker.
Jack is the acclaimed author of The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea, and The Bald Eagle: The Improbable Journey of America’s Bird – described by The New York Times as a “rollicking, poetic, wise new book.” His works explore the intersections of American history, nature, and culture and our ever-changing relationship with wildlife.
In his keynote address, Davis will draw from personal experiences – including the account of the woman who spent a week in a Bald Eagle nest – and weave in Indigenous stories, folklore, and literature to highlight the significant shift toward a new era of wildlife restoration – one that empowers animals to tell their own stories.

His presentation will be broadcast live for all Gala ticket holders; Gala sponsors at the $1000+ level are invited to a special in-person VIP cocktail reception and meet-and-greet at the Shenandoah Valley Arts Center in downtown Waynesboro, starting at 6:00 p.m. Jack’s presentation will begin at 7 p.m.
