In 2021, Center president and co-founder Ed Clark learned during a chance encounter that the nurses at the UVa COVID-19 Clinic had become avid watchers of the Center’s Critter Cams.
On March 26, the Wildlife Center of Virginia was thrilled to host them during a tour of our facility, where they met with Center staff, news media representatives, and the Center’s non-releasable education ambassadors.
Speaking with CBS19 News journalist Franklin Spain, former COVID-19 Clinic nurse Cynthia Edwards described how watching the Critter Cams helped alleviate tensions on particularly difficult days: "[2021 was] a stressful time, of course, for people and it was a very disheartening time also for people. I think that’s how us nurses and even the doctors became involved in watching the Critter Cams at the COVID clinic because it was a source of tension relief and stress relief."
