On February 15, Outreach Public Affairs Manager Alex Wehrung spoke to NewsRadio WINA listeners live on the air about the history of the Wildlife Center, stories of success in wildlife rehabilitation, and the bird-themed virtual programs streaming throughout the month in honor of the Great Backyard Bird Count’s 25th anniversary.
Launched by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society in 1998, "the Great Backyard Bird Count is an amazing program, it’s one of the most important citizen science projects of our time. Citizen science is a method of scientific observation where the public are the primary members and individuals who collect information, and that’s kind of flip-flopped from what you would expect — scientists doing the data collection.", Wehrung describes.
