Ever since Oscar the Eastern Hog-nosed Snake joined our ambassador staff in 2015, we’ve hosted Oscar’s Oscar Awards each year. Oscar was named for the impressive acting abilities of the hog-nosed snake species and the dramatic “death scenes” that they often employ to evade predators — truly Oscar-worthy! This year, Oscar is delighted to announce the following winners:
Best (and Worst) Live Action Short Film: The Center suffered from a terrible ice-storm in November 2018; it definitely offered more "live action" than we bargained for! Check out this summary of our storm damage, and listen to Amanda’s recounting of the rescue of Maggie the Peregrine Falcon.
Best Makeup & Hairstyling: Jaz, the education American Crow, during her summer molt! Jaz is 26 years old and rocked out a pretty interesting "hairdo" for a few weeks while she molted.
Best Foreign Language Film: Hudson the education Gyrfalcon. Hudson joined the team in 2018 and has made himself heard daily — he’s quite loud. We’re not always entirely sure what he’s saying, but he seems to like saying it.
Best Picture: Artist Amy Shawley offers several drawing and painting workshops at the Center each year; Buttercup the Black Vulture’s session was quite popular!
Best Supporting Actor: We’re thrilled to award new ambassador Elliott [a Western Hog-nosed Snake] with the best supporting actor award. Elliott’s namesake, actor Sam Elliott, is up for the same award this year!
And, of course, the snake himself … Best Actor goes to Oscar!
