The Wildlife Center community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ben Spence, a 2011 rehabilitation extern. Ben completed an eight-week externship during the summer of 2011, when the famous Norfolk Botanical Garden eaglets were at the Center. Critter Cam viewers got to “know” Ben on cam and the moderated discussion; he always gave a friendly wave when on cam, and would sometimes jump onto the moderated discussion to let viewers know how the eaglets were doing.
In addition to his helpful care of the “rock star” eaglets, Ben assisted with the rehabilitation of many patients that summer. His 2011 year-end post reflected on some of his memorable moments at the Center. Ben was an easy-going, funny, friendly member of the Wildlife Center family, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Ben was also known as "Talon Boy" to Critter Cam fans, since one of the NBG eaglets bounced off of his back in the flight pen one day.
