Since 1982, the Wildlife Center has treated more than 64,000 wild animals, representing 200 species of native birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. We’re about to admit patient #65,000!
The staff have determined that patient #14-0343 – the 343rd patient admitted this year – will be the 65,000th patient admitted in the Center’s 32-year history. With an average of eight patients admitted a day within the past week, we will see our 65,000th patient soon! We’re currently at patient #14-0272, just admitted on Friday afternoon.
So what will patient #65,000 be?
If you’ve got a guess, send an email to patient65k@wildlifecenter.org. We’ll send a Wildlife Center t-shirt to one of the individuals who submits the correct species.
Some past “landmark” admissions include:
- Patient #45,000: A Virginia Opossum, admitted April 2006
- Patient #50,000: A Common Loon, admitted May 2008
- Patient #55,000: A Virginia Opossum, admitted May 2010
- Patient #60,000: A Virginia Opossum, admitted May 2012
So far this month, we’ve admitted a variety of young animals – rabbits, squirrels, opossums, and bears – as well as injured adult patients, including raptors and songbirds.
