After seven weeks of intensive care and rehabilitation, Bald Eagle #26-0356 is ready to return to the wild—and you can join us for the release on Friday, May 8!
This eagle was rescued on March 15 after he was seen falling from a tree in Westmoreland County. Upon admission, our veterinary team found a fracture in the eagle's right coracoid bone, and a blood test revealed that the bird also had lead poisoning. Veterinary staff immediately began treatment to remove the lead and placed the bird on crate rest while his fracture healed.
After one month of treatment, the eagle's fracture had healed, and the lead was successfully removed from his system. On April 16, our rehabilitation team began exercising the bird to help him regain strength; by May 5, the eagle was flying beautifully and was officially cleared for release. This eagle will be released at Westmoreland State Park on Friday, May 8, at 1:00 p.m. Wildlife Center staff will deliver a presentation on the Center’s life-saving work with native wildlife, and then comes the big moment—we'll open the transport crate and watch as the eagle takes flight back to the wild.
Join us to watch Bald Eagle #26-0356 return home! The release is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to RSVP with the name and number of people in their party through our Eventbrite registration page.
The release will take place rain or shine, unless thunderstorms with lightning threaten visitor safety.
