After one month of rehabilitation, Bald Eagle #25-3791 is ready to return to the wild—and you can join us for the release!
This adult Bald Eagle was rescued on September 24 after being found grounded in King and Queen County. Upon admission, veterinary staff discovered large necrotic wounds on the eagle's back and hips. Diagnostic tests also revealed high levels of lead in the bird's system, a significant health issue for Bald Eagles.
The veterinary team started chelation therapy to remove the lead and carefully managed the wounds. Within two weeks, the lead had been successfully cleared, and the bird's wounds had healed. By October 20, the eagle was able to perform strong, sustained flight in an outdoor flight pen and was officially cleared for release.
This eagle will be released at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown on Thursday, October 23, at 1:00 pm. Wildlife Center staff will do a presentation on the Center’s life-saving work with Bald Eagles, and then open the doors of the crate to release the eagle back to the wild.

American Revolution Museum at Yorktown Address: 200 Water St, Yorktown, VA 23690. The Bald Eagle release will take place in an open field at the museum's Revolution-era farm. Guests attending the release ceremony can access the area in a special check-in location near the museum's main parking lot. Museum exhibits and living-history experiences are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with admission; residents of York County, James City County and the City of Williamsburg receive free admission with proof of residency. Parking is free.
The release will take place rain or shine, unless thunderstorms with lightning threaten visitor safety. We hope to see you there!
