Wilson was found at Maymont Park in Richmond in October 2009. He was likely an unwanted or escaped pet. When he was found, his entire upper shell had been painted purple. Center veterinary staff painstakingly removed this paint. However, because Wilson had likely been taken from the wild and kept for some time as a pet, he cannot be returned to the wild
