On September 28, a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crew helped rescue an injured Peregrine Falcon found in Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Photographer Tim Curtis saw the injured bird and alerted the VDOT crew.
The falcon, an unbanded adult, was brought to a permitted rehabilitator in Norfolk and then transferred to the Wildlife Center on September 29 where it was admitted as patient #16-2192.
During the initial exam, Dr. Ernesto identified an open fracture on the falcon's left wing; the bone was exposed and had dried out. Typically, open fractures need to be bandaged and kept moist to avoid necrosis of the bone. Because the bone was too dry, Dr. Ernesto could not repair the fracture. The falcon was humanely euthanized on September 29 following the initial exam.
